This event, organized as part of the Open Days of the General Directorate of Civil Protection (March 1st), brought together several notable figures, including the Governor of the province, Adil El Maliki, heads of external services, elected officials, civil society actors, as well as civilian and military representatives. It highlighted the crucial role of Civil Protection in safeguarding human lives and property, as well as in managing emergency situations.
At the headquarters of the Provincial Civil Protection Command in Essaouira, the governor and his delegation received detailed explanations about the interventions carried out by the teams throughout the past year. They were also informed about the human, material, and logistical resources mobilized to ensure a rapid and effective response to various emergencies across the province.
The delegation then visited exhibition stands to explore the equipment and resources available to the Provincial Command. They also attended simulation exercises demonstrating intervention techniques for road accidents, fires, and rescues in challenging environments.
During his speech, the Provincial Commander of Civil Protection in Essaouira, Rachid Rafini, emphasized that this World Day celebrated under the theme "Civil Protection: Ensuring Population Safety", shed light on the crucial role of Civil Protection agents and their vital missions. He stressed the importance of strengthening this corps in the face of worsening natural disasters, pandemics, and increasing industrial activities.
Mr. Rafini also pointed out that Civil Protection interventions are not limited to emergency situations but also include risk planning, assisting distressed populations, and conducting awareness campaigns to prevent everyday dangers. He highlighted the importance of public awareness and prevention, emphasizing that risk culture and first aid knowledge are essential in reducing human and material losses in case of accidents or disasters.
The event also welcomed students, who had the opportunity to learn about various equipment, mechanisms, and techniques used in rescue and emergency operations.
